Kevin Green is the founder and director of The Outsourced Legal Department.  He is an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a Solicitor of England and Wales. With 25 years of international in-house experience at multinational companies and over six years in international law firms, Kevin has provided legal services worldwide, including 23 years with IBM Corporation.

With his international experience as In-house and as an External Counsel he is acutely aware of the different roles each plays which led to the launch of The Outsourced Legal Department as a cost effective way for businesses of all sizes to obtain business focused legal services without having to use expensive external lawyers. 

The key benefit of In-house  counsel is understanding the balance between business growth and business risk. Business is dynamic, and can encounter issues at many levels, with clients, suppliers, distributors and internally.  In-house counsel is able to identify problems and gaps early from within the business which allows real time course-correction.  Outside counsel can only address issues when asked which is often well after the problem is too big to handle internally.  

While outside counsel plays an important role in certain circumstances, their advice is often theoretical, will be limited to the clients exact questions, and may come with disclaimers.  Outside counsel may also lack detailed knowledge of your business and focus on executing your particular instructions in a vacuum.  Additionally, their business model involves billing for time, which may not align with your organizational objectives.
